Las Vegas Attorneys Guide & Directory Listings

Step 1: Decide what type of Las Vegas Attorney you need.

Step 2: Know what you can afford and buy only what you need.

Step 3: Consult & Interview before you contract.

1. Decide if the the task you need performed is simple (like a simple will) or highly specific and complex (like being charged with a crime or a serious injury). If you only need a simple family will that names your spouse as the beneficiary, you don't need a $200 or $300 an hour law firm, unless you think it's justfied. The same principle applies for simple real estate transactions, boundary disputes, minor traffic violations and the like. Friends or relatives can usually recommend a general practice attorney that will do the job well and within your means. If you don't have any recommendations, let your fingers do the walking in the Yellow Pages and find a few general practice attorneys close to you. Interview with 2 or 3, compare their prices and make your choice.

2. If the need is complex or you have a lot at stake (like going to jail or seriously hurt in a car accident) you need to do your homework, and decide how much you can afford or if the attorney works on a contingency basis for cases of personal injury.

Las Vegas Attorneys working your case on a contingency, what does it mean?

A contingency fee arrangement gives you access to the courts when you can't afford to pay the attorney fees and the costs of civil litigation. It is also a powerful motivation for a attorney or firm to work on your case. Unlike a fee based attorney, where you pay by the hour for their time, it makes no difference economically to them as to the outcome of your case. But, don't expect an attorney to work a contingency basis unless your case is strong and a substantial amount of money can be gained. Court costs are high and trials are very expensive.

Las Vegas Specialty Attorneys

1. Attorneys like other professions, have specialists or areas of law that they focus on. Just as the medical profession branches off, so do lawyers. If a specialty attorney is needed, call the offices of the lawyers or firms that promote your need. Ask if they charge for interviews or consultations? A fee based consultation isn't necessarily bad if it's a modest fee, this is the attorneys way of vetting out clients who are coming in on a whim. Take a good look in the business directories on how the attorneys are listed. Does he/she list a dozen or more specialties, chances are they are part of a large law firm or a general practice attorney willing to take on anything. Speciality attorneys usually trim their practices to one main category and branch into others that are closely related. Examples; Accident and Injuries, Bankruptcy and Debt, Family Law and Divorce, Estate Planning and Probate.

Others have a practice that specializes in mainly one field. Examples; Criminal, Business, Corporate, Immigration, Insurance, Elder, Gaming, Negligence, Social Security, and Tax Law, just to name a few.

Always ask straight foreward questions, before you hire a Las Vegas Attorney or Law Firm, don't be intimidated. Wouldn't you ask your doctors what they going to do before they operate on you?

(Take Notes) at the consultations, and remember you are Shopping
